Ty Lawson joined the Lithuanian club Zalgiris Kaunas during the NBA lockout. This move gives Lawson a chance to compete in the European courts and keep himself occupied with high-level basketball during the NBA lockout. Zalgiris Kaunas Competes in three different leagues.
1) The VTB United League: an international professional basketball league that was founded in 2008. Its goal is to unite the leading basketball clubs of Eastern Europe and Northern Europe together into one league. There are 18 clubs from 8 countries competing in this league. Ty Lawson’s Zalgiris Kaunas and Timofey Mozgov’s Khimky Moscow are both competing in group A of this League.
2) The Lithuanian League: The Lithuanian national basketball league
3) The Euroleague: Twenty four teams from around Europe compete in what is labeled as the most important professional club basketball competition in Europe.
VTB United League

On September 29, 2011 Zalgiris played Estonian Kalev/Cramo in their first VTB league game. Ty Lawson had a quiet night in his debut with his temporary team scoring only 3 points. On October 14, 2011 Zalgiris defeated their opponents Krasnie Krilya in their third game of the VTB united league. Zalgiris are now (2-1) in the VTB united league and rank 3rd in Group A, tying Russian club’s Unics’s record and falling behind Timofey Mozgov’s team Khimky by one game. Final score 84 – 82.

On October 17th 2011 Zalgiris hosted NBA star Andrei Kiralenko and his Russian club CSKA Moscow in their Euroleague opener. The game ended with CSKA emerging victorious by 13 points. In Zalgiris’s second game of the Euroleague on October 25 2011, The Lithuanian squad visited Unicaja in hopes of winning their first European game. The two teams where neck in neck and regulation time was not enough for either team to grab an advantage. The game went to overtime where Kristaps Valters scored two three pointers to give an edge for the home team who ended the game by winning 85-78. This marks Zalgiris’s second loss in the Euroleague and the team is now at a losing record of (0-2).
